Balance · At the wall

Toe pulls

The bridge between the wall and freestanding balance. Facing the wall, only your toes touching, you lift them off by pressing into your fingers, and you hold whatever balance you find. It's your first real balance, with a safety net a few centimeters away.

How to do it

  1. Walk up facing the wall, hands 15 to 20 cm from it, only your toes touching.
  2. Push a little more through your shoulders and gently lift your toes off.
  3. Grip the floor with your fingers: they're what stops you from falling back onto the wall.
  4. Hold the balance you find, even half a second.
  5. Come back to the wall in control, still pressing through your fingertips.

Two mistakes to avoid

Pushing off with your feet. A kick against the wall sends your hips away from it, and you go over the other side. The movement starts in your hands and shoulders, your feet follow.

Passive fingers. Handstand balance happens in the pressure of your fingers on the floor. Laid flat, they can't brake, and you come back to the wall every time without knowing why.

A coach in your ear

Upside down, you can't read a screen. In the app, a voice guides you through the exercise and tells you what to fix right when you need it. For example, as your toes leave the wall:

“Your fingertips do the work”
